  • Test drove the vehicle on the freeway and felt a lack of power. Noticed engine load is only at 65% with full throttle. Fuel trims are good ruling out a fuel supply issue. Tested the mass air flow with lab scope and found oscillations at higher RPMs, indicating pressure going back through the intake. Removed the oxygen sensors and test backpressure. Found front bank to be at 5psi at 2500 RPMs and the rear bank is at 3psi. Specification is no more than 1psi. Catalytic convertors are restricted and require replacement. After repair, engine power is restored and load is now 83%
  • Competed Inspection on Tablet

  • Remove sparks plugs and install new parts. Torque to manufacture's specifications.
  • Remove the front bumper for access. Remove the lower y-pipe and bracket. Disconnect all oxygen sensors. Remove the drive belt and alternator. Remove the fasteners and both converters. Remove the 2 broken bolts in the rear head. Clean surfaces and install the new converters. Reassemble, test drive and inspect the repair.
  • Remove the drive belt. Disconnect the electrical plug and air conditioning lines. Remove fasteners and replace the compressor. Reassemble and verify proper operation.
  • Install the new belt while off replacing the compressor.
  • Disconnect the tie rod from the knuckle and loosen locknut. Unscrew the end and replace. Remove the bellow boot and replace the inner tie rod. Repeat for the opposite side and reassemble.
  • Remove fasteners and separate the ball joints from the spindles. Replace the control arms and reassemble. Test drive and inspect the repair.
  • Road test vehicle. Check all suspension and steering parts for wear. Check tire pressure and condition. Check riding height. Check alignment of all four wheels. Adjust caster, camber, toe-in, and thrust angle as needed on all four wheels. Center steering wheel and adjust steering angle as needed.
  • Disconnect vacuum line and remove fasteners. Replace the rail pressure sensor and reassemble. Test drive and inspect the repair.
  • While compressor is removed, replace the oil pressure switch due to leak.
  • Replace the crankshaft position sensor that broke during removal.
  • Road test vehicle. Change oil and oil filter. Rotate tires as needed. Lubricate chassis as needed. Perform Vehicle inspection. Adjust tire pressure. Fill windshield washer fluid.

  • Scanned engine codes, found multiple stored faults. Fuel pressure sensor (P018B, P018C), misfires (P0303,P0304,P0313,P0316), catalyst efficiency (P0420) and engine temperature and cylinder head temperature correlation (P1026). Customer complains of the misfire, this will be diagnosed. Additional codes will require additional time. Started the engine and noticed misfire, scan data identifies as cylinder 3. Noticed what appears to be a new coil on the offending cylinder. Performed ignition component comparison, swapping the coil with 1 and the plug with 2. Started engine and misfire now moves to cylinder 2, condemning the spark plug. They read Ford but may have been replaced at some point. These vehicles have issues with coolant leaking into the combustion chamber. Warmed engine, pressure tested cooling system and let engine cool. Using boroscope, inspected inside the cylinder and no evidence of coolant found. Scan data shows abnormal fuel pressure and cylinder head readings. This will not cause an individual misfire but will continue to illuminate the engine light if not repaired.Additional diagnostic approved. Code P018 diagnosed first. Data shows erratic signal return. Disconnecting the plug causes a 5 volt return open, so reading it's a constant 108.7 psi. Tested for 5 volts and ground, present and steady. Low fuel pressure sensor has an internal defect and requires replacement. Next up is P1026 for the temperature sensors correlation. Data reveals no voltage return from the cylinder head temperature sensor. Disconnected the plug and verified 5 volt reference and ground are present. At operating temperature, typical resistance is 3k ohms. This sensor is reading 78 mega ohms, or 78,000,000. This reading is basically an open circuit. Cylinder head temperature sensor is defective and requires replacement. P0420, catalyst efficiency, is last. Warmed engine to operating temperature and monitored the sensors. The downstream sensor is mirroring the upstream, which indicates the converter is not burning the exhaust gases. The catalytic converter will have to be replaced. This is a federal emissions vehicle.

Installed new brake pads and brake pad hardware. Compressed caliper piston and installed caliper. Installed rear wheels and torqued to specification. Road tested vehicle to verify proper brake operation.
  • Inspect all hydraulic line and hoses. Inspect calipers and wheel cylinders if applicable. Inspect master cylinder and cap. Flush entire brake system including master cylinder, calipers, wheel cylinders until clean. Test drove to verify proper brake operation.
