  • Scanned engine codes and found P0442 (small leak in evaporative system) and P162B (remote vehicle speed limiting signal message counter incorrect). The latter code indicates the vehicle's speed may have been limited by the OnStar system for some reason. When this happens a reduced engine power message will appear in the cluster. Test drove vehicle several miles and no issues felt. Actual fuel pressure always matches desired, even under full load. Tested volumetric efficiency and it calculated to 93%, anything over 85 is considered acceptable. The conditions that were described when the failure occured (85 MPH+) can not be duplicated within reason on the nearby roads. Stolen vehicle slow down clear procedure was reset at this time. No recommendations since complaint can not be duplicated. Smoke induced evaporative system to diagnose code P0442. Found system will not hold full pressure indicating there is a leak. The odor that the smoke emits can also be detected. Visibility is extremely limited due to the design of the tank and rear subframe. Fuel tank will have to be removed to diagnose the location of the leak.
  • Test drove vehicle. Raised on lift and performed vehicle inspection. Filled out vehicle condition report and submitted to service advisor.
  • Add fuel cleaner to fuel tank to clean lines. Disconnect fuel source and run injector cleaner through fuel rail to clean injectors. Run dedcarb cleaner through intake manifold to decarbon valves and pistons.
  • Replace battery, clean terminals and install terminal protection pads
  • Gain access to cabin filter housing. Remove cover and filter. Clean out debris. Apply BG frigi-fresh to new filter and install new filter back in housing.
  • Using scan tool, perform the stolen vehicle slow down clear procedure for code P162B. Test drive vehicle and verify repair.
